The World Series

Are you watching The World Series? Did you watch the game last night? I don’t watch baseball all year (except when I can be THIS CLOSE to Derek Jeter like this season when the Twins played the Yankees and I was in the first row behind home plate!!) but for some reason I’m addicted to the World Series. Every pitch, every swing of the bat, it's all so important. I know you could probably say that about every game during the season but come on, you know it all means more during the WS.

I really liked watching the WS when they played at Fenway Park in Boston. It's such a small, cramped little place and you've got the Green Monster and all - you just can't beat it. It's so much more interesting than the stadiums of today which all seem to look alike.

Fenway Park & The Green Monster

Last year I watched this one man that had great seats right behind home plate and I wondered about him. How did he get such great seats? Does he go to all the games? Did his great-great-grandfather pass down the season tickets? Why does he wear that red scarf at every game? Is it his lucky scarf, or just warm? He never seems to leave his seat. Does he have a Stadium Pal (shoutout to the David Sedaris fans!)? It's hard to concentrate on the game when there are so many things to distract me.

Then there's the singing of the National Anthem. Last night I was pleasantly surprised by "Hall" from "Hall & Oates". He did a really nice job.

It looked so miserable in Philly last night - raining, cold and windy, just like Minnesota on Sunday. Brrr! I was glad that they finally suspended play but thought it was interesting that they waited until the game was tied, which means that they will finish the game rather than calling it a win for the Phillies and ending the series. I have been rooting for the Phillies since the WS started (their uniforms are cuter) but last night I was cheering for the Rays because I want the series to go the full 7 games!

Phillies Logo - cute stars!

Speaking of uniforms, I came to the conclusion last night that the only ball player that looks good wearing their baseball pants the old style way (with the socks showing and the pants up to the knees) is A-Rod. No one else should attempt it. Jeter could probably pull it off, but why? If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Derek Jeter

Go Phillies! Go Rays!

Scroll Mini Album

I just completed a really fun project - a mini album that can be used as a journal, art journal, photo album, or anything you can think of! The front and back cover features a fun orange and brown scroll design.

The album has 20 completed pages tucked into protective sleeves for safekeeping. Because the pages are removable you could easily change the order of the pages or add photos, art or journaling and slip them right back into the protective sleeve.

I listed the item in my store tonight, but could only show 4 of the 20 pages, so here are the other 16 pages:

These pages were so fun to make that I might have to make another one for myself!

Photographs

Don't you just love looking at photos? I sure do! I recently ordered some prints from my day at the Arboretum (see earlier post) and I was so excited when they arrived yesterday. I ordered mostly 4 x 6, but also some 5 x 7 and wallets of my favorites, with no real idea what I would do with them.

I loved how the wallets turned out and decided to make them into tags that could be used as journaling blocks in a scrapbook or as notes to friends and family. I listed them in my store tonight and here's a peek of the set:

There are four tags in the set and each one has a different photo.

As you can tell from my most recent posts fall really is my favorite season! Unfortunately the leaves are really falling fast all of a sudden, and before long it will be brown and dreary here until the first snowfall. That's why it's so important to enjoy these bright and sunny days!

So thankful . . .

I'm so thankful for the people that have purchased items from my Etsy store, including one special repeat customer! I also appreciate the fact that so many people have taken the time to look at my store and items and I hope that many of those people come back and buy!

I'm also thankful for some new friends I have made through Etsy, especially Andrea from RooksPaperScissors. Be sure to check out her store - her work is exceptional!

I know that we all have things or people to be thankful for, so I created tags with room for people to write about what it is in their life that they make them thankful. I think it would be a great activity on Thanksgiving Day - or whenever people get together with family and friends - to have everyone write something about one of the other guests and then have everyone share their list. The tags I made are available in my store; here's a peek:

For these tags I used a font by my favorite crafter, Becky Higgins. If you aren't familiar with her be sure to check out her blog (you can find a link to your right, under "what she read").

Remember to take time to thank the important people in your life!

Holiday creations

I'm busying thinking up ideas for holiday creations . . . cards, tags, etc. I had a great idea for a card (I thought) but when I made the first one (with plans to make 59 more!) it just didn't look as great as I had thought it would. Bummer. Hmmm, now what?? I spent two evenings looking at the card and getting absolutely nothing done. I was stumped.

I decided to take a night off (my first in about a month) to watch Survivor and Grey's Anatomy. During commercials - because I can't just sit there - I flipped through the latest addition of one my favorite scrapbooking magazines. Talk about inspiration! Just looking at holiday items got me inspired, and hopefully tomorrow night when I start creating something great will happen! Cross your fingers!

Meanwhile, I had some paper scraps sitting on my craft table from a previous project and rather than file them away I started goofing around and came up with this card:

I love the bright colors and contrast; I also love the simplicity. I wish I had more of this paper! I listed the card in my store and it seems to be getting some attention so hopefully someone will decide they have to have it soon!

Fall in Minnesota

Fall in Minnesota can be a short season so it's important to enjoy every moment. I did just that on Saturday by visiting the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum and spending the morning walking about the beautiful gardens and trails with my Aunt. It was a perfect day - cool when we met at 10 a.m. but warming up nicely by the time we were done. We followed up with lunch (of course!) at a bar & grill with an outside patio; it was a great way to spend the day. Here are a couple of photos taken at the Arboretum.

On the way home (about an hour drive) I stopped by the little barn pictured above to buy some pumpkins. What a cute place! There were pumpkins, gourds, and indian corn everywhere you looked. There were even chickens wandering around! Here are a few more photos.

I told you there were chickens! Inside the barn was a little store selling fresh vegetables, home made jam and salsa, even fresh cookies! I had a great time and bought a few pumpkins and gourds to decorate our front steps.

By this morning it was cool and rainy, so I'm glad that I took time to enjoy the outdoors yesterday. The leaves are falling, crops are being harvested, and before long it will be winter. Yes, fall is a short season, but it's great while it lasts.
